50th Anniversary

The College of Sciences has several upcoming events in honor of UCF’s 50th Anniversary, and you’re invited to participate.

 

Ongoing | Knights Pantry

 

As part of UCF’s 50th Anniversary, the College of Sciences is collecting donated items for the Knights Helping Knights Pantry. To date, COS has collected 1,215.52 pounds of donated items! If you would like to donate items, drop them off in the Dean’s Office, any COS departmental office or at any event listed below. The Knights Pantry offers a variety of nonperishable food items, toiletries and professional/business casual items to our students.

 

Feb. 4 | COS Distinguished Speaker – Robert H. Grubbs

 

Nobel Laureate and California Institute of Technology Professor of Chemistry, Robert H. Grubbs, will speak at UCF. The event will start at 4 p.m. in Classroom One (CL1), room 121, and is free and open to the public. A reception will immediately follow. Click here for more details on this event.

 

Feb. 6 | Science Café - Psychology

 

The Science Cafes happen the first Wednesday of every month at Taste Restaurant in College Park. February’s Science Cafe will feature Dr. Eduardo Salas, where he will present “The science of teamwork: what effective teams do, think and feel.” Click here for more details on this event.

 

Feb. 7 | UCF Women’s Basketball Game

 

The College of Sciences is sponsoring the UCF Women’s Basketball game against Marshall to celebrate alumni, professors, students, staff and friends of the University that have made the UCF 50th anniversary possible. The game starts at 7 p.m. and tickets can be purchased at the door.

 

Feb. 9 | NSC Alumni & Faculty Reunion

 

The Nicholson School of Communication’s current and retired faculty and all of its alumni are invited to a free networking reception on Saturday, Feb. 9 from 7:30-9 p.m. at the UCF FAIRWINDS Alumni Center. This is a great opportunity for alumni to reconnect with previous classmates and faculty members. We are no longer accepting registrations for this event. Feb. 14 | COS Distinguished Speaker - Senator Bob Graham

 

Senator Bob Graham will be speaking to UCF students, staff, faculty and guests on February 14, 2013 as part of the Distinguished Speakers Series, which is hosted by the College of Sciences. The event, “Citizenship and Global and National Security in the 21st Century”, will start at 3 p.m. and is free and open to the public. The event will be held in the Morgridge International Reading Center.

 

Feb. 15 | Asteroid Encounter

 

Join international leaders in asteroid and comet research, on Feb. 15 from 1 to 3 p.m., for a special “viewing party” that will climax with an exclusive look at the asteroid 2012 DA14 zipping between Earth and orbiting communication satellites — the closest fly by in recorded history. Gonfalon Redesign Competition | $300 Prize

 

The COS gonfalon needs to be updated and we need your help. The UCF gonfalons are hung during commencement ceremonies to represent each college. The deadline to submit your design is Jan. 31. Click here for more details on this competition.
