String Theory & The Quantum Universe public talk

Date: 11/19/09

Time: 5:00 pm - 6:30 pm

Location: CL 309

Speaker: Professor Gary Shiu, University of Wisconsin.

About the Speaker:

Gary Shiu GARY SHIU received his PhD from Cornell University. After postdoctoral positions at the Institute of Theoretical Physics at Stony Brook and the University of Pennsylvania, he joined the faculty of University of Wisconsin at Madison in 2002.

His research program, broadly known as String Phenomenology, aims at understanding the deep connection between String Theory, Particle Physics, and Cosmology. In particular, Gary is interested in constructing and studying models of particle physics and cosmology from string theory in order to see what string theory might tell us about physics in the high energy frontier and the early universe. His work is supported in part by the US Department of Energy, the National Science Foundation, and the Research Corporation.

Public Talks in Mathematical Physics:

PUBLIC TALKS are talks that inform the general public (including those with limited knowledge of math and physics) about the status and advances made in the discipline.
