Biography

Dr. Panousis received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Physics from Lowell Technological Institute, followed by a Ph.D. in Physics from Iowa State University. He started his career in microelectronics at AT&T Bell Laboratories in Murray Hill, New Jersey, where he conducted basic research on the electronic properties of semiconductor materials and their application to micro-device structures. At Bell Laboratories he advanced to the level of Vice President of Silicon Technology Development where he was responsible for all of AT&T and then Lucent's silicon microchip process technology.

In 1993 he moved to his present home in Orlando and was appointed President and Chief Executive Officer of Cirent Semiconductor, a new joint venture company formed by Lucent Technologies and Cirrus Logic. He was responsible for a $1.4 B expansion of that Orlando facility.

In July of 2000, Dr. Panousis accepted a faculty appointment in the Economics Department of the University of Central Florida where he established and became the Director of the Institute for Economic Competitiveness. In this position he developed a data base and analysis in support of Florida's strategic plan to diversify its economy and attract and grow high tech industry.

In November 2005, Dr. Panousis was appointed Interim Dean of the newly established College of Sciences at the University of Central Florida. In February, 2007, Dr. Panousis was selected as Dean of the College of Sciences.

Dr. Panousis holds eight patents in the semiconductor device and processing area and is the author of more than twenty technical publications. He has been awarded the Honorary Degree of Doctor of Engineering Science from the University of South Florida. He has been a member of the Board of Directors of the SEMATECH consortium of semiconductor manufacturers, the Board of Directors of Enterprise Florida, the Board of Directors of the Mid-Florida Economic Development Commission, and the Foundation Board of the University of Central Florida. He is presently a member of the Board of Directors of Workforce Florida and a Trustee of the Florida Chamber of Commerce Foundation.

Dr. Panousis is married and has 3 children.
