If entering UCF for the first time, it’s important to know how to register for your courses and what to do if you run into the occasional problem as you move forward in your studies. Students in the College of Sciences can rely upon their COSAS advisor to assist with a wide range of concerns dealing with Registration, overrides for specific types of enrollment concerns, schedule planning, and more. Remember: you are never without help in choosing your courses here at UCF. Referring to your Degree Program (default is current catalog year, you may need to refer to the archive to view your catalog year) and contacting your College and Departmental Advisors are key in making sure your schedule plan will keep you on the path to graduation.
Questions about registration, overrides, and general concerns should be directed to COSAS@ucf.edu.
UCFID and NID
NID (Network Identification Number)
Your NID is the key to accessing the UCF computer network, the Internet, the library, and a world of cyber information. Your NID is used to login to all UCF websites. It is two letters followed by a series of numbers (ex: ab1234567). Your NID@ucf.edu is also your student email address.
- Go to https://my.ucf.edu.
- Beneath the login button, click on the link “What is my NID?”.
- On the next screen, enter the requested information & click submit.
- Your NID will be emailed to all email addresses on file.
- Use your NID to log into all UCF websites. If you forgot your password, use the password reset.
UCF ID
Your UCFID is a unique student Identification Number, usually 7 digits long. Your UCFID is the key of accessing online registration, class schedule searches, adding or dropping classes, and a lot of other functions, including viewing your grades and fee schedules. Provide this number whenever you visit an advisor or coach. Include it in any email to UCF Faculty or staff, so they can quickly find your information.
- Go to https://my.ucf.edu.
- Log in using your NID and password.
- On the left menu, navigate to Student Self Service > Personal Information > UCFID Info.
Registration
Class Schedule Search
You can search for classes online though myUCF. First, you need to log in.
- Go to https://my.ucf.edu.
- Log in using your NID and password.
- In the left-hand menu, click on Student Self Service, then click Class Search/Browse Catalog in your Student Center.
- Select a Term, for example, “Spring 2008”.
- Type in Class Search Criteria if you know the Course Subject and Course Number OR select “browse course catalog” near the top and search for your course by Letter.
The above five steps are all that are required for finding a class; however, unless you want to see every class offered at the Main Campus during Spring 2008, you will need to narrow your search. There are several ways to do this. You can use one or all of the following suggestions.
Class Search Criteria
- Choose a Subject (Prefix) to see, for example, all the classes within the subject PUR-Public Relations.
- Choose a Course Number to see all the classes of certain level. For example, typing “3%” will show all the classes at the 3000-level.
- Other search options include: Course Career (Undergraduate or Graduate), Location (ex. Main Campus (Orlando), UCF at Cocoa, UCF at Daytona, etc.), and Special Course Groups (ex. GEP-Communications, Honors Classes, etc.).
- Check or uncheck the box next to Open Classes Only to show or remove closed classes from the list.
Additional Search Criteria
- Meeting Time (ex. Between 5:00 and 9:00)
- Day of Week
- Instructor Last Name or First Name
- Class Number (ex. 1136)
- Course Title Keyword (ex. Statistics)
- Course Component (ex. Discussion, lab, etc.)
- Session (ex. A-First Six Weeks)
- Mode of Instruction (ex. World Wide Web)
- Campus
- Department (ex. Accounting)
Finding Your Course’s Instructional Modality:
Instructional mode refers to the way your course will be taught, whether this is entirely online through Webcourses@UCF or face-to-face in a classroom. To find out what instructional mode your course is, first find your course in the UCF Schedule of Classes (see above) and then click on the details of your course. You can access the details by clicking on the “Class” or “Section”. To find out what the different instructional modes mean, see: Types of Courses at UCF.
Within the details, look for “Instruction Mode”
Before You Register
Before you register, there are a few things you need to do to make the process go smoothly.
- Check the Academic Calendar for all the important dates for Registration, Add/Drop, and Late Registration. The Academic Calendar can be found on the UCF website at www.ucf.edu, on myUCF in Helpful Resources. During Registration and Add/Drop, you can only register after your appointment time. If you register for your first course that term during Late Registration and/or Add/Drop, you will be charged $100 Late Registration Fee.
- Get your Degree Audit. If you are not sure how, go to the Degree Audit page on this website.
- See your advisor. If you are not sure who your advisor is, contact the department of your major or see the COS Advising Contacts section of this website.
- Know your NID and Password.
- Check for Registration Holds. To view possible Holds, log in to myUCF, select Student Self Service, check the Holds section in your Student Center.
- Check your Enrollment Appointment Time. To view your Enrollment Appointment, log in to myUCF, select Student Self Service, and see your Enrollment Appointment in your Student Center.
Registering for Classes Online
- Go to https://my.ucf.edu.
- Log into myUCF using your PID and password.
- On the left hand menu, click on Student Self Service..
- Select Enroll from your Student Center
- Select Term for which you want to register.
- Enter Class Number if you know the Class Number OR select Search to Find Classes.
- Click Select Class when desired class is found and is open (green circle).

- Click Proceed To Step 2 Of 3.
- Click Finish Enrolling.
- The next screen will show you a status message for each class enrollment that indicated either successful registration (green check mark) or an error (red X). If an error occurred, you will be directed to view the “error log” see the reason so you can see what kept the registration from being completed successfully (see below).
- View and verify your Class Schedule. Select My Class Schedule tab to display the List View option or the Weekly Calendar View option.
- After you are finished, your should print out your Fee Invoice.
Error When Registering, But You Would Still Like To Pursue Enrollment (Override) Into A Course:
Error Examples and how to follow up:
- Requisite Not Met For A Class: If you believe you have met the prerequisite, submit proof of the requisite (ex. transcript or previous course schedule) online. If you do have the prerequisite you can also request an override online at the bottom of the “registration and overrides” page on our website www.sciences.ucf.edu/cosas.
- Class is Full: Pursue the override with the department that offers the course
- Class Limit Exceeded: You are only permitted to register yourself for 17 credit hours (Spring & Fall terms) and 14 credit hours (Summer term), if you need to go over the credit limit, you must contact the department of your major
- Instructor’s Consent Required: You must contact the instructor or the department that offers the course to pursue the override
Also see the Overrides section below for more information.
Obtaining Your Fee Invoice
- Go to https://my.ucf.edu.
- Log into myUCF using your NID and password.
- On the left-hand menu, click on Student Self Service.
- Select Fee Invoice from the Finances section of your Student Center.
- Click on your desired Term.
- Your Fee Invoice will appear, which you can then print out and save for your records.
Write this down! Once you have narrowed your search using some or all of the above suggestions, click on Search. The next screen will show the results. A class is open if there is a green circle; a class is closed if there is a blue square. If it is a class you think you would like to take, write down or print out the following:
Information | Example |
Class Number | 82864 |
Prefix and Number | ENG and 3010 |
Title | Pract Criticism |
Day/Time | Tues/Thurs 10:00-11:15 |
This information is not only important for registering, but for getting overrides and other uses.
Overrides
The override process varies by COS department, so you will need to ask someone in the department or someone who teaches the course how to proceed. One thing, though, is likely: for an override in any COS department, you will need the course prefix and number, name of the class, date/time (the Class Number may also be helpful), and the reason why you need an override (i.e., what was the Error message when you tried to register for the course?).
COS Department Main Offices: locations where to pursue overrides for Registration Errors including:
- Requisite Not Met For A Class,
- Class Is Full,
- Time Conflict,
- Class Limit Exceeded,
- Instructor’s Consent Required
TIP: If the class you want is unavailable (blue square), check myUCF periodically to see if a spot has opened up (green circle). Students drop classes all the time, and for a variety of reasons, especially during Add/Drop week (first week of classes each term).
Online Override
When registering for a class, there are two possible outcomes; either you are enrolled into the course or you receive an error. Each error has a specific reason and, for most errors, it can be solved with an override. In the chart below, each error is specified, described and has information about where to get the appropriate override.
Commonly Mistaken for COS Courses
Please note a college can only process overrides for courses they teach, i.e. the College of Sciences cannot process and override for ENC 1102 since that course is taught by the College of Arts and Humanities.

Late Add or Late Swap Petitions
COSAS will only consider student petitions during the second week of the semester or the second week of the session in the summer semester. These include petitions from students to late add a course or late swap (add/drop) one course for another. Petitions will only be considered if the following conditions are met:
- A fully completed petition has been submitted from the student’s ucf email account to coslateaddswap@ucf.edu no later than 11:59PM on Friday of the second week of the semester.*
- Download COS Late Add/Late Swap Petition forms
- The COS Late Add/Late Swap Petition forms must include the following:
- Late Add/Late Swap Intake Form (Pages 1 and 2 – completed by student)
- Late Add/Late Swap Support Form (Page 3 – completed by advisor (Step 1) and instructor (Step 2))
- Late Add/Late Swap Acknowledgement form (Page 4 – completed by student)
- For some petitions, other forms may be required and provided by the advisor or instructor such as
- Override form
- Undergraduate Registration Agreement (URA)
- The student has met with a departmental advisor from the department that offers the course and the advisor has completed Step 1 of Late Add/Late Swap Support Form.
- The instructor is willing to add the student to the course and has completed Step 2 of Late Add/Late Swap Support Form including providing information on how student can proceed (e.g., make up assignments) so they have the opportunity to succeed in the course. Please note that instructors are in no way obligated to support student petitions for late adds/swaps.
- The student does not have any holds on record that may block registration.
- Petitions from students with holds blocking registration at the time petition is emailed to coslateaddswap@ucf.edu will be denied.
- If a hold becomes active AFTER the petition is received, the student will be contacted and given a brief time to lift the hold.
*Petitions received after 11:59PM will be denied.
Exception: Late Add Petitions for independent study, directed research, practicums and internships
COSAS will consider late add petitions for restricted registration courses after the second week, if extenuating circumstances prevented on-time enrollment and assuming the following conditions are met:
-
- Assigned work can be successfully completed within the remainder of the semester.
- Student and instructor completed an individual agreement using the required Undergraduate Registration Agreement form submitted to COSAS.
- Note: Course can be for credit or for no credit.
Late Drop Petitions
Students wanting to petition to drop a class after the add/drop/swap deadline can do so in Academic Services at https://undergrad.ucf.edu/as/. Click on Petition Eligibility.
If the drop is needed due to college or department error, students may petition the drop by sending an email to coslateaddswap@ucf.edu. We will respond with instructions and an appropriate form.
